About Us

CAN I HELP YOU?

In my office practice I see children, teens and adults, "all kids 3 to 93". People I see come to me with wide a variety of "mental health" problems. I have extensive experience treating the more common problems such as anxiety, panic, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Bipolar, mood swings, depression, and Attention Deficit Disorder(ADD/ADHD). I also have considerable experience treating less common problems such as tics, Tourettes, eating disorders, autism spectrum disorders, and psychosis - to name a few.

The main focus of my practice is evaluation, diagnosis, treatment suggestions, and medication management of psychiatric disorders. I am open minded to alternative and nutritional therapies as well; I am not an expert in these areas but I am a believer. I am not a counselor. Although I like to understand your life story and the context in which your symptoms occur, our time is limited to looking at how medication and lifestyle changes can help you regulate your symptoms. Generally we work together to decide what would be the most helpful strategy regarding counseling and a referral is made to a community therapist to fit a person's particular need.

A LITTLE ABOUT ME

Experience:

I have been a Board Certified Family Nurse Practitioner with an emphasis in psychiatric and mental health psycho-pharmacology since 1999. In 1999 when I became a Nurse Practitioner there were not programs or board certification for was is now a Psychiatric Mental Health Practitioner, that is why I am A FNP and not a PMHNP (some people do ask). I have over 20 years of clinical experience in psychiatric/mental health nursing. Prior to becoming a Nurse Practitioner I was a Registered Nurse and ran inpatient child and adolescent psychiatric unit for 7 years.

I have also owned and operated a pharmaceutical clinical trials business since 1999. During this time I have worked on almost 100 clinical trials, many of which include the development of the medications we have used, currently use, and are yet to use in psychiatry. I have written my own protocols for original investigator initiated clinical trials and have presented my work at The American Psychiatric Association's Annual Meeting, The National Institute of Mental Health's Annual New Clinical Drug Evaluation Unit (NCDEU) meeting, and also at the U.S. Psychiatric Congress Annual Meeting. I was the first nurse practitioner to be invited to The American Psychiatric Association's Annual Meeting to present original work at in 2004.

Clinical focus:

Evaluation, diagnosis, medication management and patient education for children, teens and adults with problems related to their emotions, behaviors, or thought processes.

Me Personally?

I am the rare born and bred native Idahoan. I have traveled all over the country and haven't found any where else I would rather live than Idaho. Although, Banff, Alberta Canada comes in as a close second.

I have three adult sons, and daughter. I have five dogs, two pit bulls, a black lab, a min pin and Francis the Brazilian rescue office dog. I also have two horses. I love my dogs and educating people about the myths and truths of the pit bull breed (PitBullPositive.org, PitBullLovers.com, PitBullHappenings.com ) Sometimes I have more dogs every now and then, depending on what the family or friends drag in.

All my kids have been on the Bogus Basin ski team at one time or another, so we love to ski! You can catch me on a hill somewhere during ski season. I am a gym rat and for some unknown  reason I enjoy picking up and putting down heavy things!  I also like watching Hockey and football.
